Most countries require that any equine being imported from the United States spend a specified period of time in an approved
isolation facility which meets federal standards regarding space, sanitation and
proximity to other animals.
The United States governments requirements for maintaining the integrity of
the isolation are very specific and stringent. The facility is subject to
unannounced inspection by the USDA personnel at any time during the isolation
period.
Due to the intricacies involved, most shippers prefer to use an experienced,
professional isolation facility such as ours.
Here at EZ 2 Spot Ranch, we understand government regulations and maintain a
commitment to outstanding compliance with these regulations at all times.
What documents must I provide?
You must provide:-
- Current, negative Coggins
- Copy of the original registration
paper
- Copy of your invoice or bill of sale for customs clearance at the point of
destination.
There will also be an equine isolation and transport agreement that will be
completed and signed by both parties prior to beginning the isolation period.
This document clearly defines all details regarding all policies and procedures.
What will happen during the isolation period?
Your equine will be house in a large stall, 12' x 20' in a lighted,
sanitary and well ventilated barn. The stalls are mucked and sanitized
twice each day and shavings are replenished, as needed.
A round pen in the isolation area is dedicated to the use of the animals in
"quarantine" and daily turn-out is available.
The equines are fed high-quality coastal hay and a pellet feed twice a day.
They have fresh water before them at all times.
If your equine has special dietary needs, we will be happy to make whatever
accommodations may be necessary. Blanketing and grooming services are also
available for your equine during the isolation period.
EZ 2 Spot Ranch will prepare the international health certificate for your
equine and our veterinarian will perform the tests and general health
examinations that are required by law. Other veterinary and farrier
services are available as needed.
What tests or vaccinations will my equine need?
The requirements vary from country to country and also are affected by any
animal health issues that are relevant at the time. Requirements also vary
according to the equine's gender and age.
Generally, during your equine's isolation period, there will be a Coggins
test and additional blood work. All test results are sent to the USDA
office for approval prior to the completion of the isolation period.
Costs and details for veterinary testing and government fees will be
determined on a case by case basis when the isolation begins.
How will my equine get to the final destination?
When the isolation period has been successfully completed and the flight
arrangements have been made, EZ 2 Spot Ranch will transport your equine to the
airport of departure.
Upon arrival at the airport, the equine will enter an additional government
supervised 5 hour quarantine period.
Upon successful completion of the secondary isolation period your equine is
loaded into a specially designed equine crate which is placed on the aircraft.
During the flight, your equine is supervised and cared for by trained equine
attendants. This usually includes one or both of us from EZ2 Spot Ranch!
